Established in 2016, the National Cybersecurity Center (NCC) promotes cybersecurity leadership and education that is accessible to every person. Serving public and private organizations and individuals, the NCC works with the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) to deliver an integrated, interdisciplinary cybersecurity center to deter cyber threats while serving as the operational home to the Space ISAC to secure assets and systems in space. In 2022, the National Cybersecurity Center was in a period of opportunity and growth, yet, its story was not consistent. As a result, their communication channels were not being used to build momentum tied to their growth. It was delivering impressive programs and training while convening the nation’s premier cybersecurity leaders, but it was not fulfilling its potential reach.
ASC was retained to do a full audit of its current positioning, messaging and communications channels. We sought out how to identify how NCC is perceived by its peers, and then define its own white space to amplify its work. Our goal was to create a differentiated language that not only equipped NCC stakeholders with language to speak to its mission and vital work but words that also convened and empowered other stakeholders to carry its mission forward. ASC developed and delivered a total communications audit and content strategy that set NCC up for greater success.
As a result of the comprehensive content strategy and engagement program, NCC was able to easily produce – in collaboration with ASC – content that further shared the story of NCC. This included an engaging video, a revised mission statement, overview materials, and a visionary letter from its Chairman. This kicked off a series of articles and position papers that generated national media attention – including a media mention in Forbes and various local news outlets. NCC continues to grow and attract nationally recognized board members, corporate partners and participants. Its brand now lives up to its name as the National Cybersecurity Center.
